The Challenge:
AARP Foundation Experience Corps is an intergenerational volunteer-based tutoring program that serves more than 30,000 students across the nation with nearly 2,000 volunteers. It relies on adults over the age of 50 to serve in their community to make a lasting difference in the lives of America’s most vulnerable children. Experience Corps was looking to develop their staff and stakeholders’ skills to help them communicate across communities, to use emotion to gain attention and to use story to move people to action.
What We Did:
With input from AARP’s team, the Center reviewed the materials in use and researched trends across the field in order to design a unique syllabus that met the learning objectives of the organization.
The resulting customized workshop, Communicating Strategically with Experience Corps Stakeholders, featured case-studies as well as exploration into the affiliates existing projects. Featuring expert, face-to-face instruction and interactive, engaging exercises, the session also provided time for meaningful discussion and application.
